Empathy

Training Description:

This training presentation delves into the fascinating world of empathy and its neurological underpinnings. It explores how mirror neurons create a virtual-reality simulation in our brains of other people's experiences, enabling us to understand and better predict their behaviors and emotions. The presentation also covers the intriguing effects of facial mirroring and how substances like Botox and painkillers can impact our empathetic responses. Finally, delve into the role of cognitive empathy and how our brain's top-down mechanisms help us understand others' mental states. This training's emphasis on neurology will provide participants with an understanding of empathy's role in human evolution and its impact (both positive and negative) on professional effectiveness.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the function of mirror neurons and their activation when observing others.
  • Learn about the brain's neural 'wi-fi' and its role in simulating others' intentions and experiences.
  • Understand the concept of emotional empathy and its evolutionary function in predicting behavior.
  • Examine the relationship between facial mirroring and empathy.
  • Understand the importance of sensory feedback in distinguishing empathy from actual experience.
